SOULNATION - A Glimpse into.... Ashanti
Ashanti quickly became a sensation when she blasted into the music scene through her tumultuous duets alongside Ja Rule (“Always on Time”), Fat Joe (“What’s Luv?”) and the Notorious B.I.G. (“Unfoolish”). When she did release her debut album in 2001, her debut solo single “Foolish” quickly topped the Hot 100 chart. In 2002, she released another chart-topping album, titled “Chapter II”, known for single “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).” Ashanti’s sophomore album, “Chapter II”, was nominated for a 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album, whilst singles “Rock wit U (Awww Baby)” and “Rain on Me” were nominated in the “Best R&B Song” and “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance” categories. In December 2004, Ashanti released her third studio album, “Concrete Rose”, the title of which took on Tupac Shakur's pseudonym "The Rose That Grew from Concrete".
After the release of “Concrete Rose”, Ashanti frolicked with movie roles and starred in a number of movies. It was not until June 2008 that she released her latest studio album, “The Declaration”. The official first single of “The Declaration”, titled “The Way That I Love You”, secured the number two spot on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart and peaked at number 37 of the Billboard Hot 100. The song shot up to number 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop Recurrent Chart, becoming her first solo number 1 in the U.S since "Foolish." After several short weeks, the album has sold more than 1.4 millions in the US and more than 2.1 million worldwide.
