Flowing with J-Flow

For the enthusiasts of hip hop music in Indonesia, former member of Saykoji, J-Flow, is no stranger. The dude is everywhere! Earlier this March, he performed at Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, collaborating with a number of Indonesia's finest young musicians. He's worked with the likes of Cindy Bernadette, Tohpati, Pasto and Barry Likumahuwa. Plus, you might have heard a number of his indie tracks on the radio.

At the upcoming Jakarta International SOULNATION Festival 2008, he's not going to be featured in someone else's show; it's gonna be all about J-Flow. Rumor has it, his upcoming performance at Soulnation will also be completely different from his past performances, plus he's going to collaborate with someone, let's just say, very contrary to his music style.

Intrigued?
You better be.

"Body on Me" - Ashanti feat. Nelly & Akon

"Body on Me" is a song by rapper Nelly and singer Ashanti featuring the hip-hop singer/producer Akon. It was recorded for Ashanti's fourth album The Declaration and Nelly's fifth studio album Brass Knuckles. The track is produced by Akon and Vaushaun Brooks. It went to number one on Billboard's Hot Videoclip Tracks chart in its first week, becoming the first number one single from Nelly's album. The song was released as the first single from Ashanti's The Declaration album in the UK and the second from Nelly's "Brass Knuckles".

SOULNATION - A Glimpse into.... Ashanti

Ashanti quickly became a sensation when she blasted into the music scene through her tumultuous duets alongside Ja Rule (“Always on Time”), Fat Joe (“What’s Luv?”) and the Notorious B.I.G. (“Unfoolish”). When she did release her debut album in 2001, her debut solo single “Foolish” quickly topped the Hot 100 chart. In 2002, she released another chart-topping album, titled “Chapter II”, known for single “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).” Ashanti’s sophomore album, “Chapter II”, was nominated for a 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album, whilst singles “Rock wit U (Awww Baby)” and “Rain on Me” were nominated in the “Best R&B Song” and “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance” categories. In December 2004, Ashanti released her third studio album, “Concrete Rose”, the title of which took on Tupac Shakur's pseudonym "The Rose That Grew from Concrete".

After the release of “Concrete Rose”, Ashanti frolicked with movie roles and starred in a number of movies. It was not until June 2008 that she released her latest studio album, “The Declaration”. The official first single of “The Declaration”, titled “The Way That I Love You”, secured the number two spot on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart and peaked at number 37 of the Billboard Hot 100. The song shot up to number 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop Recurrent Chart, becoming her first solo number 1 in the U.S since "Foolish." After several short weeks, the album has sold more than 1.4 millions in the US and more than 2.1 million worldwide.

Smack That, Akon!

We, at JFP, are extremely excited that Akon will be one of the many artists scheduled to enliven our musical exhibition, Jakarta International Soulnation Festival 2008. Although we know that we would not be as lucky as the festival's audience as we would not actually get to see him perform and wow the audience, it did not stop us from having a little bit of fun by singing along to the lyrics one of Akon's many catchy hits, "Smack That".

For those who, like some us, initially had a hard time making out the words, here's a little help.
(Have fun, sing along..prepare yourself to sing along with Akon!)

Smack That
(Akon feat. Eminem)

[Akon:]
Shady
Convict
Upfront
Akon
Slim Shady

I see the one, because she be that lady! Hey!
I feel you creeping on, I can see from my shadow
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo
Maybe go to my place and just kick it like TaeBo
And possibly bend you over look back and watch me

[Chorus (2X):]
Smack that all on the floor
Smack that give me some more
Smack that 'till you get sore
Smack that oh-oooh!

Upfront style ready to attack now
Pull in the parking lot slow with the lac down
Convicts got the whole thing packed now
Step in the club now and wardrobe intact now!
I feel it down and cracked now (ooh)
I see it dull and backed now
I'm gonna call her, than I pull the mack down
Money no problem, pocket full of that now!

I feel you creeping on, I can see from my shadow
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo
Maybe go to my place and just kick it like TaeBo
And possibly bend you over look back and watch me

[Chorus (2x)]

[Eminem:]

Ooh...Looks like another club banger
They better hang on when they throw this thing on
Get a lil drink on
They gonna flip for this Akon shit
You can bank on it!
Pedicure, manicure kitty-cat claws
The way she climbs up and down them poles
Looking like one of them putty-cat dolls
Trying to hold my woodie back through my draws
Steps upstage didn't think I saw
Creeps up behind me, she's like "You're!"
I'm like ya I know lets cut to the chase
No time to waste back to my place
Plus from the club to the crib it's like a mile away
Or more like a palace, shall I say
Plus I got pal if your gal is game
In fact he is the one singing the song that's playing
"Akon!"

[Akon:]
I feel you creeping on, I can see from my shadow
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo
Maybe go to my place and just kick it like TaeBo
And possibly bend you over look back and watch me

[Chorus]

Eminem is rollin', d and em rollin' bo
And all marvelous them rolling
Women just holding big booty rollin'
Soon I'll be on Eminem throwing "D!"
Hitting on less than "Three!"
Block wheel style like "Whee!"
Girl I can tell you want me because lately

I feel you creeping on, I can see from my shadow
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo
Maybe go to my place and just kick it like TaeBo
And possibly bend you over look back and watch me
